History

Linen fabric has a history of four thousand years. In the 1970s, linen products accounted for 5% of the world, and by the 1990s, it had increased to more than 70%.

Difference between linen and cotton

Cotton and Linen both are plant based natural fibrous fabrics but with some distinct characteristics and properties.

Cotton fibres are very short and round shaped, making them soft and fluffy.In contrast, linen fibres are longer and have an irregular shape.

Linen is strong and durable than cotton due to its rough flax fibre.

On the other hand, cotton is comfortable and soft.

Linen has higher moisture-wicking properties keeping the body cool and dry.

It absorbs and releases moisture more efficiently than cotton, making it suitable for winter. But cotton is more comfortable to wear in hot summer.

Cotton is a smooth texture fabric due to its tight weave giving a softer touch.

Whereas linen is slightly rough because of its textured pattern and the loose weaves contribute to its coarse texture.

Cotton is easy to care for machine washing. But, Linen requires more care due to its tendency to wrinkle easily.

Linen also tends to shrink when it is in hot temperatures, so prefer to iron in low temperature.

Its important to note that linen is more to fading than cotton, so it should be washed in cold water with mild detergent.
